Oddities
Its quite strange to see. For starters, yes this blog has stood the test of time so far. Its been nearly a year since I last said anything and the server is still being paid for thankfully. I have to say that its so nice how I setup the backend. So damn simple to get a post going aslong the image’s filename matches the ruleset I had set for which it automatically does thankfully.
Oddly, its kind’ve the only way I know how to get a post going with hugo at this point. I haven’t messed with hugo nor updated it in a long time now. I think hugo is severely outdated at this point. I even had at some point earlier in the year upgraded the os because it was so damn old that none of the repositories basically worked. This server has been alive and setup like probably a 6+ years now. The server was originally installed under Debian Buster if I recall. If you ever decide to look a bit into that. Suffice to say that the server was horribly out of date.
Honestly, I may have to consider outsome point a reinstall of the os. I have no idea what is actually broken with this server at this point. Anyhow, I think the server was upgraded to bookworm since its end of life is till 2028. I’ll probably look into upgrading again once the next end of life for Trixie is posted. Its just funny to think since I think this is like the first linux installation that I have that has survived for more than 2+ years simply because I hardly use the darn thing. The blog was the only thing I ever actively use it for besides foundryvtt. Kind’ve afraid what will happen when if I ever need to reinstall the os simply because I’ve forgotten so much how to get a website up and working. Just haven’t bothered tinking with server stuff for a couple of years at this point.
Don’t blame me that this server just works and the blog functions exactly I want it to. Why change things when it functions fine? My only real concern is with Hugo to be frank. I’m not sure how well it will perform when I ever reach 700+ posts and such. Then again I realistcly can just offload hugo off the server and have it setup on my personal computer and such if performance ever becomes a concern. Thats the beauty of a static website design. Once the build is complete. No crazy work is needed to maintain the state of the website. There is no database to worry about and everything is just simple files. Then again I can imagine there being a problem far into the future whenever I reach 100,000+ files for nginx to handle, but I don’t think this website gets the kind of traffic where that is a concern.
Anyhow, I’ll look into updating hugo at some point. Probably test on my personal computer and see what breaks before I do anything extensive. I imagine there will be no problems, but we will never know.
Blog alive again?
I figure I should mention this since I’m randomly appearing with a post after a year hiatus. Short answer. No idea. Long answer well…
I want to get back to swing of things and bring posts back at a far more regular pace. In fact, I been considering on the idea of doing web novel stuff as of late. There’s just a few problems to consider.
The first elephant in the room that I gotta consider is “AI” or LLMs scraping this website and just pooling this data into their “grand” datasets to imitate intelligence. There is quite literally nothing I can do about that aside from simplying taking the website down and never adding new posts to this blog. I will just have to learn and accept the fact that people or companies will simply just use tools to scrape this website for all of its data and use it to their content. Unfortunately, laws haven’t and probably will not catch up to deal with these problems in a reasonable capactiy. Which is a problem for me when I want to consider doing a web novel.
If I want to do a web novel I will be risking someone to very clearly and easily take wants on here and post it wherever else they want it to. I’m just gonna have to worry about that when the time comes. To be frank, I may just consider on excusively doing it on other reputable sites since I feel like it would be harder for me to take down copycats if I’m not atleast present on them as well. Nothing against the idea of doing them here and may even never revealing the blog until SEO decides to make it relevant unless of course the AI stuff doesn’t usurp that stuff now.
At the end of the day. I’m just gonna have to accept the fact that there will be copycats and AI will devour all of this data for their shareholders.

Ignoring all of that. I’m still not quite sure if I actually want to do this blog stuff again. To be perfectly told. If I am gonna do it again. It will be daily posts again. Simply because I will not keep a consistent schedule otherwise. As such, its kind’ve hard for me to get back into the swing of things. The problem being that this blog is still intrinsically tied to FFXIV and I just can’t really get myself to navigate away from that. I did finish Dawntrail some months ago and gotten a portion of the way down with the post main scenario quests. I still need to get my crafters up to level 100 and I would like to get scholar up to 100 as well. I’m quite excited for Evercold from the bits and pieces that I have seen. Plus I love the cold themes in general. So much I need to do before the next expansion regardless, so at the end of the day I’m gonna be playing the game more and in fact plan to take a few days off to tackle FFXIV to get myself ready for next expansion. Because of all of this. Its the main reason why I reconsidered about getting back into the blog posts and ideally being more active with the game in general.
I got presented with the returner status like twice already since I play the game for a couple weeks and then disappear for like 2-3 months.
Regardless, I do want to get back and the fact that I made this blog means that I have shown some evidence of that fact. I just don’t want to make promises to myself when there’s so many other games I want to tackle and life in general.
Namely. Deltarune. I decided to buy the game recently and while I know Undertale, but never played it. I know essentially nothing about Deltarune and it has been quite the experience. If anything Deltarune is the reason why I even decided to touch this blog at all. The main reason being is that I started working on a post talking about my impressions/thoughts for the first 2 chapters or so. Haven’t proceeded past much past chapter 3 since I just want to make a post about the first 2 before delving any further.
The reason you don’t see the post right now is because I actually want to spend some time on and make it look presentable. Chances are people are gonna see that post more than FFXIV and I atleast like people to enjoy reading it. Not necessarily for their sake, but for my own. I just haven’t fully fleshed out how I want to do it without it being a rambling mess.

Anyhow, I do want to mention one other thing before bringing this post to an end. The Author name of the blog is likely bound to change at some point. Mainly because I essentially moved on from the name. I kept Rook as a nickname for probably over a decade and decided to move on to another that I had been using more frequently since the past year at this point. In fact, I had already changed my character’s name in FFXIV which Rook Gale was originally based upon, so it kind’ve makes sense to change it here as well. The only reason why I haven’t changed it now is that I’m lazy. Plus I would have to go through the 400+ posts to update the author name. The one downside about not using a database for this website. I technically done something similar to this before when I was refactoring how I did my posts, but as I said before. I’m being lazy. I’ll likely change it once I get into the swing of things and more reliably make posts again.
