Endwalker [6.0]: Post may contain potential spoilers.
The Burning Field
Hm… Its definitely a place in which a field may burn in given that its meant to destory practice dummies. I think. Anyways, I’ve been working quite a bit for the past few days and haven’t had the chance to really focus on this blog or anything really. Its funny how adjusting work hours by 30 minutes can drastically change my workflow. I can’t deny that I haven’t been focusing much on the blog nor on FFXIV as a whole. At the same time work has been a nuisance for some time and kind’ve wish that I could leave it for another job.
Lets move away from that though and onto the actual game for a bit. I’ve nearly hit 10 million gil now. I would say that roughly 3-4 months ago I’ve nearly been redlining with my in-game finances for quite some time. (You could also include real life as well.) Now that I got the free company workshop up and running and been doing a fair amount of stuff on the market boards. Its a tad weird possesing a fair amount of gil to the point that I can’t find ways to immediately spend it. Outside from house lottery that is. '
Overall, I think that this a good thing yet at the same time I need to really establish a new long-term goal. Now obviously, I want to complete 10,000 FATEs and still have it in the works (once I finish leveling up my blue mage that is.) I’ve also been considering on doing the lovely grind when it comes to fishing. Sadly, that is my only disciple of land job that hasn’t reached max level yet. I’m close, but just haven’t put in the effort yet.
Heck there are the deep dungeons for me to do still. Its funny to think that there’s alot for me to do in this game and I’m just over here dealing with a stupid lottery. Sad in a way. I think the main reason for my lull at the moment is because I want to play the game with others yet hardly anyone is on currently. I also don’t like how people been making videos recently on Youtube about why people are “quiting” the game. Its starting to become a wildfire now and it might backfire in more ways than one.
Players “quiting” the game
Sure the content creators probably have the game’s best interest, but watching at least one of the videos and browsing the comments of another. They seem to be putting on a rather gloom vibe with the current state of the game. I can’t say whether they are right or wrong since I’ve started playing Post-Shadowbringers and Endwalker has been my first expansion experience. They have fair points in some their videos though, yet at the same time it bothers me how harsh they use the word “quitting” in their content.
It doesn’t seem fair to call the game’s current state as an exodus of players. People are leaving the game yes but for what reasons? Is the dwindling player count an expected outcome on post-content for an expansion? Another thing to consider, do people view the game as “completed” with the conclusion of the decade long story arc? Honestly, I can sit here for days thinking of the many possibilites as to why people are “leaving” the game. Personally, the whole idea of people quitting the game is overblown. These folks are being dramatic in a sense.
Once again, they have made valid points in their videos with the content present in Post-Endwalker. Its a good thing for them to critique this game to help it continue on a better path. For me however, I believe that the developers are already aware of the current challenges that Endwalker faces. Its actually impressive that Endwalker ended on such a high note as it did considering the development state it was in. To be more specific, Creative Business Unit 3 was dealing with a pandemic during Endwalker’s/Shadowbringers development. I believe Shadowbringer main content was mostly spared since it was probably made before “Covid” had hit. However Post-Shadowbringers did experience quite a lot of problems.
As such, it stands to reason that Endwalker’s Expansion was made during the height of the pandemic and would have been dealth with a host of problems. One other thing to make note of is that the Director “Yoshi-P” also had his hands on Final Fantasy 16 at the time which the same studio was working on. Probably in different teams to prevent productivity issues, but it doesn’t change the fact that the FFXIV director was focused on another project besides this game.
To be frank, this whole debacle of players quiting the game is a multifacted one. There’s a lot more that could be discussed, (probably not in a rant-style format either) sadly I must bring this post to an end due to the ever-lovable deadline. One last thing to make note is that there might not be a post tomorrow. This is mainly due to the fact that I won’t be home for most of the day and not certain if I will have time to dedicate on a post and FFXIV as a whole.
Anyhow, I hope you folks have a good day/night!
