Shadowbringers [5.0]: Post may contain potential spoilers.

Stilltide

Nothing special with today’s post other than the fact that I wiped my OS. This might have been the second longest instance of me running an OS. To be more specific, I tend to run some flavor linux distro the vast majority of the time. Sometimes I’ll switch over to Windows, but I haven’t touched it outside of work in the past year or two now? The wipe was a fairly smooth process with only one slight problem. The password for my admin account that I use to make these posts is forever lost.

I use Keepass to store the vast majority of my passwords and then just upload it to a cloud and occasionally syncing the files. The problem is that I don’t sync these password databases frequently. More like once every 6 months… Not only that, I tend to leave the database inside my download folder which tends to be cluttered with random files. I will also occasionally delete all files inside my downloads folder, including the password database. I tend to notice it a few days after when I need it.

Thankfully, I can just update the config or send some command in terminal to resolve the issue.

You might ask why I don’t know the password to my admin account and why I’m not using it? Its more for security purposes. I don’t want someone having near full access to my server. As such, On most normal instances I use a standard user account with limited functionality. I only use the admin account when something happens and I don’t have sufficient permissions to deal with it. It also serves as a way to prevent people from easily acquiring my admin password when I don’t even know what it is. Not knowing the password isn’t much of a security benefit, but the key thing is to ensure I never have any need to use it. That way when my password is compromised. It should be the normal user account and not the admin account. Plus I have a backup method of just accessing the server directly anyhow.

Oh yeah, something interesting to note for those who never noticed it (which is basically everyone). Due to my new setup on software, the method of screenshots is slightly different. The only noticeable difference for you is that in the very bottom right corner of the image. There use to be a few black pixels sticking out. It was the in-game cursor since in order to screenshot just the game. I had to click on it. As such the cursor will always be displayed on the screenshot. My new method no longer requires the use of my mouse and will result in no longer being able to see those black pixels in the corner.

Anyways, thats all for today. I hope you folks have a good day/night!
