Sweetwater

A rather interesting location. This might be the last uncovered location out of all the major zones in the game. To be quite honest, I got nothing for this place. There’s very little information about this place for me and personally. I don’t want to delve to deep into this place at the moment. As such I’ll be talking about something else of interest.

Janky Solution

So… The Steam Deck repairs. I was able to “resolve” the problem without any significant issue. Just one itsy bitsy issue cropped up. The bumper wasn’t the issue. To be more specific, the actuator that makes the click sound and triggers the button is the problem. That part isn’t part of the bumper replacement since its on another entire board.

Essentially, the left bumper when you press on it is suppose to hit a tiny little blue button (that I’m calling as the actuator). This actuator is meant to give a click sound and in turn activates the bumper. Unfortunately, it appears to be loose or lower than normal. As such when I press the bumper. The bumper doesn’t actually reach the actuator. I have to apply a fair amount of force on a specific spot on the bumper to hit the blue button.

Thankfully, I was able to “create” a solution so that the bumper would actually hit the actuator. What is this solution you may ask? Lets show a picture of it.

What you see is tiny slices of electrical tape stacked ontop of where the button is. Surprisingly, it actually works. Sadly, it made me realize that the actuator has been damaged since receiving the Steam Deck. I had remembered that both of my bumpers produce a different click from each other, but completely forgot about it till I fixed the bumper.

The warranty might’ve covered it, but now it probably won’t since I went ahead and opened the Steam Deck. The other problem of this whole situation is that there’s no replacement part for the board itself. Atleast Ifixit doesn’t appear to be offering any at this moment. As such I would have to send it off to Valve for repairs. Now abit uncertain whether they will honor the warranty or not.

Although, I want to see their response when they learn of my “solution” to the problem.

On a side note. Opening the Steam Deck and swapping out the bumpers wasn’t all that hard. Took probably an hour to do it. It will take less next time since I know what I’ll be doing. Thankfully I have prior experience in doing repairs for compact devices like this. Not much but enough to know some limits of what can be done.

Conclusion

Anyhow, I got nothing else to mention for today. Looks like I will be back to playing on my Steam Deck more frequently now. I do intend to get a proper repair for this problem, but it just needs to last till I get back from my vacation.

I hope you folks have a good day/night!
