Wielder
Cheers around on what seemed to be almost that of a colloseum. A vast majority of the audience happen to be that of peasants or decently clothed merchants. In one particular spot happens to be a stand exclusive for nobles. In the center of that stand is a small awning that sticks out in the middle rows and happens to be occupied by the queen of this very nation. In the middle of everything happens to be a podium that houses a pristine sword almost as if it had never been touched. In the opposite direction of where the sword faces. Is a gate where people lining up and amping themselves. The Queen sits on their chair in absolute boredom. This will be the third year She says to herself. The queen has very little expectations of this event offering a new successor to the sword. A man sat in another chair next to her who is the current minister. The man looks over to here depressed state concerned. However the man chooses to not speak towards her.
Soon the line of people began to start moving towards the sword. Right before the first person attempts to pickup the sword the queen speaks. “I just hope no casualties come of this. The people don’t truly understand the responsibilites that the sword requires of the wielder.”
“That I can agree with. However, none of the nobles understanding those responsibilities were worthy of the sword.” The minister speaks out clearly.
The Queen sighs and rests their hand against their cheek. “I was wondering why there were no nobles involved around this time. I thought you prefer to stick with tradition Minister?”
The Minister looks over at the queen and frowns their eyebrows a tad. “You would’ve been aware of these circumstances if you actually bothered to partake in our meetings. Since the birth of this kingdom, this is the first time that the sword has never deemed anyone worthy in multiple years.”
She glances over to the Minister and lazily looks back at the podium watching each person failing to lift the sword. Occasionally, she would see someone get flung away from the sword, an indication of poor magic aptitude.
“Thats why I have you Minister. There’s no need for me to participate when you already know what my intentions are. Besides I understand the situation of our kingdom and that we need our symbol to protect us once more. I just wish that you didn’t turn it into a gambling match.” Over at the other stands where some of the peasants and merchants reside. She notices people exchanging coins as if betting on who would pick up the sword or be flung away from it. So far no one seemed to have succeeded in their bets.
“I understand for your concerns, but I don’t expect this event to appear again next year.” The Minister focuses further on the line of people failing one after the other. People cheering and amping up their loved ones. Some with dismay finding out they weren’t fit for the role.
The queen takes no further action towards the minister and simply watches the event unenthusiasticly. Time goes by and while the crowd hasn’t diminished in their hopes. Both the Queen and Minister begin to fill in doubt whether this would succeed. The some of the folks that were on the line decided to walk away instead of participating. Which begins sow doubt as well. Unfortunately, one of the participants that laid their hands upon the sword found themselves flund straight up nearly reaching the top of the stands and fall directly onto their head unmoving about 10 feet away from the podium. Some of the guards recognizing what had happen rush towards the silent body and pick them up away from the crowd’s eyes. While this all unfolded. The crowd’s cheers dissipated into nothing. One could almost hear the sounds of their own heartbeats due to how quiet everything is.
The remaining participants that stood in line begin to slwoly retreat back through the gate they came from. The Queen looks over and glares at the Minister. Meanwhile the Minister occupies in his own head to avoid further shame. However while the participants walk back to the gate. Two small figures slowly pass through them.
The Minister caught a glimpse of these two figures and was intrigued. No longer occupied with himself. He decided to scan the crowd of people to seek for these two figures once more. Right at the front of the crowd closest to the sword did these two individuals appear once more and baffled the eyes of the Minister. The Queen occupied on what to do with the Minister happen to notice a sudden change in the man’s experession. She looks back towards the crowd of people and was shocked by its revelations.
Two boys hardly of age. Walk towards the sword. One of them clearly took notice that the whole crowd eye’s bores through them and had taken a rather meek stance behind of the other child no more taller than him. The other boy while the clothing he wears are in tatters and only a smidge of white remains on him. Even through all of the mud. Confidence oozes out of the boy and his steps are unwavering.
“Did you allow kids to particpate in this event?!” The Queen nearly thrown herself out of the chair stares directly into the eyes of the Minister. Thankfully, no one outside of the awning took notice of her raised voice but the nearby guards.
“I did no such thing. Guards stop those kids from reaching the sword. I don’t want another incident.” Desperately trying to keep himself calm. The Minister didn’t know how the kids got through when it was ordered that none can participate. Hoping that the guards would intevene in time.
The guards rush towards the two boys. The confident boy took notice and realizing that the sword was too far away. He begins blitz towards the sword. The meek boy shocked by losing his only protection from the eyes. Rushes towards the boy. With the distance closing between the guards and the two boys. It became clear to the Minister that guards wouldn’t make it time. He slouches into his chair and drops his head hoping that some miracle would stop the boys. Unfortunately, no miracle came and the closest boy reaches the sword first. Just around him the guards begin circling the boy almost afraid of getting any closer to the sword more so than the boy. One of the guards motioning his hands towards the boy to walk away from the sword. The meek boy was caught by one of the guards and couldn’t move any forward. The last boy grins towards the guards and places his hands on the sword.
The guards in fear of the boy being reppeled at one of them reflexively protect their bodies and wait.
Nothing.
Nothing happened when the boy laid his hand on the sword. Some of the guards recognizing that no boy flew into them, open their eyes and were befuddled with what happened. The silence of the crowd dropped even further. Now, one can hear the blood flowing through their veins. The boy looks around and his grin grew wider and then he attempts to life the sword. The guards once again protect themselves and the caught boy drops his head expecting shame. However nothing came again, but this time the sword was lifted off of the pedestal it was on and everyone saw the blistering beauty of the sword shining in the light.
The Queen baffled along with the Minister. None had expected this kind of outcome and as such the Queen begins to laugh outwardly. The Minister was taken aback and begins looking at some of the nobles that happen to be nearby. One of the nobles spouting in knightly armor begins to rush towards the Queen with great haste. One of the guards that stood by with the Queen and Minister attempted to stop the man, but were pushed aside. The nobleman drops himself down to a kneel and looks at both the Queen and Minister.
“Your Majesty and Minster! I come requesting to take the sword away from the boy whom has shown disrespect of out people!” The nobleman drops his head expecting a response.
The Queen stops her laughter and looks over the nobleman amused. “And how do you expect to take the sword away when not even you could wield it?”
In response to the queen the Minister also speaks towards the kneeled man. “While many of us weren’t expecting these results. However, once the sword has found its new bearer. None can revoke the bearer’s right to the sword.”
Slamming his fists down into ground. “I can not accept this! Please allow me to duel the child to prove whether he truly deserves to wield it!” At this stage all of the nobles could hear what was being said towards the Queen and Minister Some of the other stands were also able to get tidbits.
“Very well, I’ll allow you to humilate yourself towards the people.” The Queen motions the nobleman away from her.
The nobleman said no more words, but clearly was disgruntled by her Majesty’s response. He stood up and walked away from the awning and towards the podium.
The boy who is now the bearer of the sword passively waited around the guards. All of guards where befuddled on what to do now that the boy had the sword. Before any of them could take ant actions. A man in knight armor stood pushes some of them aside and stood before the boy. The man pulls his sword of the scabbard and points it towards the boy menacingly.
“You lowly peasant how dare trudge on our symbol.”
The boy looks at the man unflicthing. Meanwhile the other boy off to the side breaks free from the guards and runs up between the two. He then raises both of his hands in an attempt to stop the engagement.
“Please sir! My brother only did it because we needed food and some of the folks at the stands would give us some if he attempt to grab the sword. Please sir don’t hurt him.” He then bows, nearly smacking his head against the floor.
The man scoffs.“You think I care what the reasons are! You two defiled our most sacred treasure!” The man swings his sword at the boy that was inbetween them. However before the sword made contact with flesh. The meek boy flings his hands up and through magic means repels the man away from them.
The crowd becomes shocked by the turn of events and began murming over themselves. The Queen watched the event unfold and stood up with a strong grin. The Minister attempted to stop here but realized the futility and sat in his desposed.
The Queen reveals herself to the people and all eyes turn towards her. The Queen raises her hand towards the boy with the sword and spoke proudly.
“We have our new sword bearer!”
